Welcome to The Bearded Butcher's Kitchen! We're about to tackle a recipe that's truly one-of-a-kind—Tag Soup! If you've ever found yourself staring at a pile of unused hunting tags (those expired ones that have been cluttering up your wallet), you're in for a treat. Don't toss them out—transform them into our famous tag soup!
With hunting season wrapping up in Ohio and across the United States, that feeling of regret for not filling your tags is all too familiar. Whether it’s deer, elk, or any other game, many hunters are left with unused tags as the season comes to a close. But the shame of having those unused tags will fade away once you try this mouthwatering recipe. The hearty, flavorful tag soup will remind you that while the season may have ended, the bounty of the hunt can still be savored long after the last shot. It’s the perfect way to honor the season and make the most of what you’ve got left.
Ingredients:
- Water (enough to fill your soup pot)
- Unused Hunting tags (expired or not, the more the merrier!)
- Your favorite Bearded Butcher Blend Seasonings
- Optional Add-ins: Any kitchen scraps you've got lying around —this is a "no waste" soup after all! Think: leftover veggies, last night's meat scraps, or even that lone potato rolling around in the bottom of the pantry.
Instructions:
- Prep Your Pot: Start by filling your trusty soup pot with water—just enough to create the perfect broth base. A full pot should work for a hearty batch, but feel free to adjust according to your personal taste (and tag stash).
- Add the Tags: This is the fun part. Toss in your unused hunting tags! Whether they’re expired deer, elk, moose, or even the exotic tags for that animal you were never quite sure you'd hunt, they all bring their own unique... flavor to the mix.
- Spice it Up: Now, for the Bearded Butcher twist—season it to your heart’s desire! We suggest our Bearded Butcher Blend Seasonings to really elevate the flavor. If you like a savory, intense flavor, go for the Bearded Butcher Bold Blend; if you prefer something more classic, the Bearded Butcher Original Seasoning is a winner. Whatever blend you choose, you’re guaranteed a deliciously seasoned broth.
- Simmer to Perfection: Let your tag-filled concoction simmer on low heat for about an hour. Stir occasionally as the deer tags "infuse" their flavor into the broth.
- Optional Add-ins: If you’ve got some kitchen scraps—like half a bag of forgotten carrots, last night’s leftover bacon, or that lone potato rolling around in the back of your pantry—chop them up and toss them in. Nothing says "good cook" like a hearty, waste-not-soup.
- Taste Test: This is where you can get creative! After an hour of simmering, give it a taste. Does it need more seasoning? A pinch more of Bearded Butcher Seasoning? Remember, this is your signature Bearded Butcher Tag Soup—make it your own!
- Serve & Enjoy: Ladle your tag soup into a bowl, garnish with whatever you’ve got on hand! Then, dig in!
